Indian council of Social Welfare is a national NGO, affiliated to International Council on Social welfare having national branches in above 85 countries globally. International council is a top level NGO, a consultant to United Nations (UN) in work related to economic and social developmental issue and also accredited to international bodies like FAO, ILO, UNESCO, and WHO. Indian council of Social Welfare was inaugurated on 06 November 1947 and for last 6 decades is working in the field of Social Development and Child Adoption. It is a designated scrutiny agency for child adoption by Supreme Court of India.
It is registered under societies registration act 1860 - No. 1799 of 1947 – 48 and under Public Trust Act 1950 with No. F 321(Mumbai).
The national office of ICSW is based in Mumbai at Shreyas Chambers 175, Dr. D.N. Road, 400 001, Mumbai.
To assist Judicial Courts in Scrutiny petitions on child adoption both for in country and inter country under Hama/ Gawa/JJ act, Supreme Court of India has designated ICSW as a scrutiny agency, In Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu & Kerala.
ICSW is also the correspondent of International Social Services Geneva to verify cases referred on child welfare and child adoption issues.
